Kink & leather event types, explained

The community runs a wide range of events, and the names aren't always obvious from the outside. Here's what each type means so you can pick what fits where you are right now.

Socials (munches)

Casual, clothed meet-ups at public venues — the standard entry point. No play; just people connecting over food and drinks. Best first event for almost everyone.

Classes & workshops

Skill-building sessions led by experienced educators — negotiation, safety, rope, impact, and much more. Educational and usually beginner-friendly, with demonstrations rather than open play.

Title contests & weekends

The community's flagship events. Title contests select representatives who spend a year fundraising and doing outreach; the weekends around them are major social gatherings with programming, vendors, and celebration. Tentpoles like these anchor the leather calendar.

Fundraisers

Events that raise money for community causes, charities, and mutual aid — from bar nights to auctions. A welcoming way to take part while supporting something concrete.

Parties

Social events that may include play in a dedicated space, always with rules, consent norms, and often a dress code. Newer attendees usually start with munches and classes before parties.

Conferences

Multi-day gatherings with tracks of classes, keynotes, vendors, and socials — a concentrated way to learn a lot and meet people from a wider region.
